From Coastal FC to Swansea City: The Journey of Milo Robinson

Milo Robinson’s soccer journey began through a natural love for the game passed down by his father. Watching his dad’s career, Milo looked up to him instantly and set his sights on following in his footsteps. When his family relocated to the Vancouver and White Rock area for his father’s work with the Whitecaps, Milo joined Coastal FC from 2012 to 2016 to continue developing his passion. Coastal FC served as a crucial foundation during those four formative years, helping him grow as a defensive midfielder and setting the stage for his future success, signing a professional contract with Swansea City and earning caps as a Welsh youth international.

Early Life and Beginnings⚽️

Coastal FC provided Milo with a supportive environment where he could enjoy his football, express himself with confidence, and learn to make every action count on and off the pitch. Reflecting on his time at the club, Milo credits his coaches, including Paul, Geoff, and Nick, for having a lasting impact on his growth and supporting his development: "They helped me develop different aspects of my game, both in and out of possession, while improving my understanding and decision-making. Most importantly, they taught me to enjoy my football, play with confidence and express myself on the pitch."

Milo’s favourite memory from his youth career at Coastal FC was scoring a crucial goal in the final of the Starfire Tournament in Seattle and going on to win the championship, a moment he describes as "A special moment that I’ll always remember and one of the highlights of my time at the club."

The Professional Stage✍️

Milo’s dedication paid off when he made the leap to the professional ranks, signing with Swansea City and representing Wales on the international stage. Thriving as a midfielder in the UK, Milo draws constant inspiration from his childhood footballing idol, his father, as well as the club he has always supported, Arsenal. On the pitch, he models his style of play after Sergio Busquets, admiring the midfielder's intelligence, composure, and elite understanding of the game. Off the field, Milo maintains a healthy lifestyle balance through hobbies like golfing with teammates and family, travelling, and staying disciplined in the gym.

Lessons and Reflections💭

Through his journey from local youth soccer to the professional level, Milo has learned that the lessons taught away from the pitch, like making every action count, are just as important as tactical drills. Looking back at his time with the club, Milo shares a heartfelt message of gratitude: "I’d like to thank my Coastal FC coaches for teaching me to always enjoy playing football and to value the relationships I’ve built through the game. Those lessons have had a big impact on me both as a player and as a person, and I’ll always be grateful for them."

His advice to young players coming up through Coastal FC is to play with confidence, push through errors, and put in the quiet work behind the scenes:

"Always enjoy yourself and have fun playing football. Express yourself, play with confidence and don’t be afraid to make mistakes, as that’s how you learn and improve. Most importantly, enjoy the journey and give everything you can. Always be willing to do the extras, whether that’s working on your game, focusing on your gym work, or prioritizing your recovery off the pitch. The little things you do consistently can make a big difference in your development."
