TELUS She CAN Coach is aligned with Canada Soccer’s Grassroots Coach Education Program, which consists of four workshops: Active Start, FUNdamentals, Learn to Train, and Soccer for Life. For more information on Canada Soccer’s Grassroots Coach Education Program, click here.

Clubs will actively begin recruiting coaches for the program in January 2025 and continue through mid-February. Once recruited, coaches must complete the designated Recruitment Form to secure their participation. After coach recruitment concludes in mid-February, coach participants will receive a welcome and invitation email from Canada Soccer, which will provide onboarding information, a pre-participation survey, and invitation access to Coach Education materials and the Google Classroom.

The program content for coach participants will begin end of February 2025 and continue until the end of September 2025, concluding with a post-participation survey.

Coach Huddles are virtual webinar sessions offered as part of the TELUS She CAN Coach program, where Canada Soccer Leads and guest speakers provide valuable guidance and build supportive networks to discuss topics related to being a woman in coaching and the sport.

Three Coach Huddles are scheduled for February, March, and May 2026 (TBC). Each Huddle is offered on two different dates and times to provide flexibility for participants. Coaches are only required to attend one of the two options each month. Recordings will also be posted in the program's Google Classroom for those unable to attend.

There is no set requirement for the number of meetings coaches must participate in throughout the program. Each club has the flexibility to design its local support network as it sees fit, incorporating in-person networking and activities to support women in the program. However, it is recommended that at least two in-person opportunities for all participants to connect throughout the program.

Coaches are encouraged and supported to complete the following training modules, with the goal of achieving Trained Status in any of the four Canada Soccer Grassroots Coach Education Program Workshops, ideally before the 2025 outdoor (September 2025) season.

To achieve Trained Status in a Grassroots Coach Education Workshop, coaches must complete:

1. Stage-appropriate Canada Soccer Grassroots Coach Education – Theory Module (Active Start, FUNdamentals, Learn to Train, Soccer for Life)

2. Stage-appropriate Canada Soccer Grassroots Coach Education – Practical Module (Active Start, FUNdamentals, Learn to Train, Soccer for Life)

Along with their Safe Sport Roster, which includes the following:

3. Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (Part of the requirements of the Responsible Coaching Movement)

4. Respect in Sport Activity Leader Program (Part of the requirements of the Responsible Coaching Movement)

5. NCCP Make Ethical Decisions Module and/or Online Evaluation (Part of the Coaching Association of Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program)

6. NCCP Making Headway Module (Part of the Coaching Association of Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program)

7. NCCP Emergency Action Plan Module (Part of the Coaching Association of Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program) 8. NCCP Rule of Two Module

This program is primarily designed for new and entry-level coaches with 6 months or less of coaching experience. Coaches who have already completed all the required training may not be the ideal fit for the program.

However, if a coach has completed only part of their Grassroots Coach Education and Safe Sport Roster training and has less than six months of coaching experience, they can be considered candidates for the program. These coaches are expected to participate in the monthly Coach Huddles and any additional opportunities or activities their club provides.

As this program is aligned with Canada Soccer’s Grassroots Coach Education Program, which consists of four workshops, each workshop's in-person practical sessions typically last 2 to 4 hours. They will be facilitated by a designated Canada Soccer Learning Facilitator appointed by the workshop host (e.g., the PTSO, District, Club).

Travel may be required, as workshops can be regionally hosted by the PTSO, District or a Club. Coaches can choose a workshop date and location that best suits their schedule. If participating clubs have an embedded Learning Facilitator, they may have the option to deliver a Canada Soccer Grassroots Coach Education Workshop for their coaches. Alternatively, coaches are encouraged to attend a different workshop that aligns best with their schedule to achieve their Trained status.

All online training modules can be completed asynchronously. However, coaches should be aware that certain online training modules, such as the Stage-appropriate Canada Soccer Grassroots Coach Education – Theory Module, must be completed before attending some in-person training sessions. Coaches are encouraged to complete their training at their own pace to achieve Trained Status and be eligible for coaching in the 2025 outdoor (September) season. If the club wishes to facilitate group training for their participants, they are welcome to do so at their discretion.

Coaches must only complete the pre- and post-program evaluation for TELUS She CAN Coach. While there is no program evaluation for the Grassroots Coach Education Workshops, some Safe Sport Roster training modules (such as the Make Ethical Decisions and Respect in Sport courses) have their evaluation requirements.
