Coastal Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of two highly experienced coaches, Tino Sousa and Lucas Alves, to lead key BCSPL intake programs for the 2026/2027 season. Both bring extensive coaching backgrounds, high-performance experience, and a strong commitment to player development at this crucial stage.
Tino Sousa Appointed Head Coach of BCSPL Girls 2013’s
With over 25 years of coaching experience, Tino Sousa has steadily advanced through the Canadian coaching pathway and currently holds the mandatory Canada Soccer B Diploma requirement. Tino has worked across both the male and female high-performance environments throughout the Lower Mainland, developing a reputation for excellence in youth development. Most recently, Tino led Coastal FC’s 2010 Boys BCSPL program to back-to-back Provincial Cup titles, earning qualification to the PDP Championships in Toronto. Beyond his recent success, Tino has played an instrumental role in nurturing young female players through multiple high-performance community club systems.
Coastal FC is delighted to appoint a coach whose experience, education, and deep understanding of the demands of the game make him exceptionally prepared to guide players transitioning into 11-a-side football. The club is confident that players selected into the program will greatly benefit from Tino’s knowledge, leadership, and long-standing track record of developing both female and male athletes.
Lucas Alves Appointed Head Coach of BCSPL Boys 2013’s
Coastal FC is equally delighted to welcome back Lucas Alves, who returns for his third tenure as a BCSPL Intake coach. Lucas brings 16 years of coaching experience, holds the Canada Soccer B Diploma, and has previously worked with Coastal FC’s 2008 Girls and 2012 Boys BCSPL groups. In addition to his BCSPL roles, Lucas has been pivotal in the club’s academy and development programs—helping advance numerous players into BC Provincial Teams and Whitecaps FC Elite Programs. Originally from Brazil, Lucas’s background includes a collegiate scholarship at Hannibal-LaGrange University (USA) and semi-professional playing experience with the St. Louis Lions (USL 2).
Lucas’s return ensures the continued delivery of a top-level, high-performance environment for aspiring youth players. His combination of coaching expertise, playing experience, and ability to build strong relationships creates a supportive developmental setting for players taking their first steps into the BCSPL pathway.
Mark McQueen, Technical Director of Coastal FC, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome back two coaches who already have significant experience working with players at this age and stage of their development. Having the ability to create a positive and supportive environment is critical at these intake years, particularly when players are entering a high-performance environment for the first time. Tino and Lucas have many years of experience working with children and youth in high-performance settings, and they possess all the modern coaching attributes necessary for working with players at this stage. They understand the importance of not only developing the players’ technical and tactical abilities but also the need to build relationships, confidence, and self-esteem—factors crucial for player retention and advancement. Appointing coaches with their knowledge, ability, and experience reflects our commitment to excellence and is a key reason why Coastal Football Club, with the support of our regional partner North Delta FC, is recognized as a provincial leader in player development.”
