September, 20, 2023 - 9:03 AM PST - Surrey, British Columbia, Canada

Coastal Football Club is delighted to announce the appointments of Jason Bermudez as Head Coach of the 2011-born BCSPL Girls intake team, and Jorge Molina as Head Coach of the 2011-born BCSPL Boys team. Both coaches will spend time working in the Coastal BCSPL Academy over the course of the season where they will have the opportunity to work with and scout potential players for their respective groups. In addition, they will also visit our regional partners (North Delta FC and South Delta United) for games and training sessions and will bring the collective partner players together periodically throughout the season.

Jason Bermudez has been coaching for the past 30 years and has taken the opportunity to become one of the few coaches in BC to obtain the CSA National B coaching license. During this time, Jason also gained valuable experience working in the BCSPL with Fraser Valley and Coastal FC, and is currently the head coach of our 2006 BCSPL Girls team. From a playing perspective, Jason is a former Capilano College player, represented BC at the Canada Summer Games in 1989, and looks forward to bringing his coaching and playing experience to the 2011 Intake team.
Coastal FC is delighted to assign a coach who not only has significant experience coaching in the BCSPL, but who has worked hard to develop himself into one of the most popular coaches on the circuit. Jason has already played a significant role in developing many of the young players who currently populate the BCSPL, provincial, and university programs, and we are certain that those fortunate enough to be selected will benefit tremendously from the knowledge and experience he brings to the program.

Jorge Molina also possesses his CSA National B coaching license. He is a returning Coastal FC BCSPL Intake coach having previously worked with our 2004 Intake Girls, and he is currently the head coach of our 2007 BCSPL Boys team. Further to working in the BCSPL, Jorge has played a major role in developing players in our club academy and development programs, in addition to coaching in our Women Premier team, and the University of Fraser Valley Women’s program. Jorge proved to be a very popular coach during his previous BCSPL assignments, and he was instrumental in advancing several players into BC provincial and Whitecaps FC programs.

Coastal Football Club is extremely happy to see the return of Jorge to the BCSPL intake program. Jorge's return to this level of programming ensures the delivery of a player-first environment for young aspiring players. Jorge's playing and coaching experience at both youth and adult levels, combined with his ability to develop strong relationships with players will create the perfect environment for our players to develop as they make the transition into the highest level of community soccer.

Mark McQueen, Technical Director of Coastal FC said, “We are thrilled to welcome the return of two coaches who have significant experience working with players at this age and stage of their development. Having the ability to create a positive and supportive environment is critical at these intake years, in particular when players are perhaps feeling the pressure of moving into a high-performance environment for the first time. Jason and Jorge possess all the modern coaching characteristics necessary for working with players in these age groups. They understand the importance of not only developing the player's technical and tactical abilities but also the need to develop confidence and self-esteem which is a factor in player retention and advancement to higher levels of the game. Appointing coaches with their ability and experience is an example of our commitment to excellence, and also why Coastal Football Club, with the support of our regional partners North Delta FC and South Delta United, is recognized as a leader in player development”.
