Coastal FC Welcomes Niall Thompson to Lead Coastal FC 11v11 Development Program
Coastal FC is pleased to announce that Niall Thompson will lead the Coastal FC 11v11 Development Program, bringing extensive international playing and coaching experience to the development of the club’s next generation of players.
A former member of the Canadian men’s national team, Thompson represented Canada at every level, from the U20 and U23 Olympic teams to the senior national team. His professional playing career spanned more than 14 years, with experience across England, Scotland, Belgium, North America, and Asia. His clubs included Crystal Palace, Brentford, Colchester United, Vancouver 86ers, Vancouver Whitecaps, and Montreal Impact.
Thompson brings more than 20 years of coaching experience and holds both UEFA A and USSF A coaching licences. His coaching career includes roles with the Vancouver Whitecaps as first-team analyst, U23 coach, U18 head coach, and U18 assistant coach. He also served as an assistant coach during Vancouver FC’s inaugural season and worked with Canada’s women’s national team staff.
With strong ties to the local soccer community, Thompson has also worked with ICSF Columbus, where he served as technical director, and previously worked with Coastal FC in our BCSPL program.
Youth development has been a central focus throughout Thompson’s coaching career. He has worked with players who have gone on to represent the Canadian men’s national team, including Alphonso Davies and Theo Bair, reflecting his experience in supporting players as they progress through the development pathway.
Through Coastal FC 11v11 Development Program, the club aims to prepare players for the demands of the full-sided game by developing their technical ability, tactical understanding, physical readiness, and confidence.
Thompson will play an integral role in player selection for Coastal FC’s U14 BCSPL and Division 1 and 2 programs, while helping create an environment that supports individual growth, strengthens performance, and prepares athletes for the next stage of their soccer journey.

His combination of elite playing experience, advanced coaching qualifications, and local knowledge will be a valuable asset as the club continues to create meaningful opportunities for players to develop and reach their potential.
