Our U8-U18 recreational/house soccer program is a beginner to intermediate program for players aged 8-17 years old, led by Certified Volunteers Coaches focused on providing an excellent experience/environment by ensuring that safety, organization, structure and fun/enjoyment exists for both players and coaches. The environment created will provide an opportunity for players to develop technical ability, comprehension of team play and formations, and individual Speed, Agility and Quickness (SAQ). The end goal will be the identification, advancement and continued development of future Skill Centre coaches and players (U8-U13) and future Rep coaches and players (U14-U18).

The Fall Recreational season runs from September to March, with breaks during traditional holidays.
The Spring Recreational season runs from April to June.
Both season programs includes one training session per week on a weekday and one game on the weekend.
Training days and times are determined based on the number of teams requiring accommodation following the team-building process and the field permits allocated by the City of Surrey.
Boys train on Mondays or Wednesdays, while girls are scheduled for Tuesdays or Thursdays.
Outdoor field scheduling is prioritized from youngest to oldest whenever possible, with younger teams in the earlier time slots.
Outdoor field permits are not received until mid-March for Spring and late July for Fall.
In the Fall, U5-U10 teams participate in an Internal Coastal Recreational House League (In-House), the U11-U18 teams follow the BCCSL League schedule.
In Spring, all U8 - U18 teams follow the Cascadia League schedule.
In-house game schedules are finalized and distributed to teams shortly before the season begins.
As league schedules are coordinated across multiple clubs and governing bodies, it is common for game details to be released as late as 5:00 PM on the Wednesday prior to the weekend match. Boys’ games are typically scheduled for Saturdays, while girls’ games are held on Sundays.
Please note that all schedules are subject to change due to factors such as field permit adjustments, inclement weather, field closures, and other unforeseen circumstances.
All U8-U18 Recreational Teams are coached by Certified Parent Volunteer Coaches (After completing a criminal record check) who receive extensive support from Coastal FC.
Prior to the start of the season, free coaching clinics are offered to our coaches that are delivered by our Licensed Professional Coaching Staff. Additionally all training sessions will be organized and managed by the club Technical Staff, and volunteer coaches will receive weekly session plans and assistance on the field for all training sessions throughout the course of the season.
The goal of the curriculum that has been developed for this program is to make all sessions fun and interactive for all players with a focus on Technical Development and Fundamental Movement Skills, through age-appropriate activities. Respective age groups follow recommendations from Learning to Train & the Soccer For Life stages of LTPD (Long Term Player Development). Additionally, club staff will be on the field to oversee games played at South Surrey Athletic Park.
No extensive soccer experience is required to coach! If you are interested in coaching, please reach out to Shelley Chin at schin@coastalfc.ca and specify the age group you would like to coach.
Your coach will reach out to you with all the team details. If you have not been contacted by the start of the season, please reach out to Shelley Chin, our Outdoor Program Manager for U8-U18.
Player team placement is managed on a "first-come, first-served" basis. While we make every effort to accommodate placement requests, we cannot guarantee them. For further details, please refer to our Team Building Guidelines.
Coaches will reach out to players with the training schedule and other team details once rosters are finalized and distributed in March for the Spring season and August for the Fall season.
Placement on a Coastal FC team is contingent upon full payment and the completion of registration through our registration site, Demosphere.
Teams are formed based on friend or coaching requests submitted during registration. If no specific requests are made, players will be assigned based on the information provided at the time of registration, prioritizing placement with peers from the same school or neighborhood. In cases where no additional information is available, players will be placed on a team with open roster spots.
For U8-U10, teams will play in our Internal Coastal Recreational House League. Realizing that the teams may not always be perfectly balanced, our Coastal FC coaches work with the volunteer coaches to ensure that games are managed and kept close in score so that the soccer environment is an enjoyable one for all players involved. If you do notice that there is a coach that is not following this policy, please make sure to contact the Technical Lead for the program. Coastal FC is committed to providing a fun and inclusive environment for all of our players.
For U11-U18 teams, teams are built based on requests, and teams play in the BCCSL. Since teams within the league will likely not start the season perfectly balanced, teams are re-tiered and grouped with teams of similar ability, typically after Thanksgiving Weekend, in order to keep the experience enjoyable for all players.
For more information please visit your U5-U18 Team Building Guidelines.
