Soccer Programs: Prospects
The prospects academy is a professionally run program for players who demonstrate superior technical and tactical abilities, along with a high level of concentration, motivation, and the willingness to learn.
This high performance player environment is offered in two phases:
- Fall - September to March
- Spring - April to June
Selected players are part of the age group pool of players; generally anywhere from 16-26 players, depending on the quality of players in a given age group.
Players train together a minimum of twice per week with one game on the weekend. In addition, prospects will be entered into tournament play 2 or 3 times per year. At this point the player pool is split into teams for competition.
The prospects academy follows STAGE 3 "learning to train" of the CSA's Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model.
This program is designed for committed players who make soccer a priority over other sports and activities.
Coastal FC is continuing to improve its in club scouting and evaluation system of all club players. Players can be identified and offered an invitation to join the Prospects Academy at any time of year, although most players will be offered spots in March each year for the upcoming seasons.
Selected players will play spring soccer until the end of June and will re-start in late August.
In season, Coastal FC professional coaching staff will scout and ask house coaches for recommendations of their top players. These players may be invited in on a trial basis for possible selection.
The Prospects Academy is overseen by club Technical Directors, Greg Berry and Mark McQueen. This includes the preparation of a seasonal plan and working with staff coaches on the delivery of a club curriculum.
Community coaches are also involved and will train the team once per week under the supervision of the professional staff.
In the short term, Prospects Academy players will be measured on their their technical improvements and competencies, relative to the standard of play for their respective age and level.
Longer term, the program is designed to provide superior technical and tactical player who possess the necessary skills to play at the highest level of community soccer and possibly beyond (National/Professional/Post Secondary).
