November 7-a-side Tournament

Tournament Rules & Conduct

The Coastal FC 2012 Remembrance Day 7 aside tournament will be played under FIFA rules for youth competition. All games will adhere to the rules set forth with the following additions/clarifications:

  • Decisions relating to the interpretations of the tournament rules can only be made by the tournament committee
  • All decisions, judgments, and calls made by the tournament referees and tournament committees are final
  • No protests will be accepted throughout the tournament
  • Game conduct is under the jurisdiction of the referee and the tournament committee will not overrule a referee's decision
  • No player may compete in the Tournament on more than one team

Tournament Format

All teams will play four (4) games unless the scheduled games are shortened or cancelled due to inclement weather or any unforeseen circumstances such as a critical injury. Teams have been grouped into divisions according to age and gender and will play all their games within their assigned divisions. 

The groups consist of the following: 

  • Group of 4 teams will play 3 round robin games and a final or consolation game
  • Groups of 6 or 8 teams will have 2 sub-groups and play 3 round robin games and/or a cross over game, before playing a final or consolation game

Points System

  • 3 points for a win
  • 1 point for a tie
  • 0 points for a loss
  • 1 point per goal scored (max. 3 per game)
  • 2 points for a shut out 

The maximum amount of achievable points per game is 8 (3 for a win, 3 for goals scored, and 2 for a shut out)

In the event of a forfeit, a score of 6 points will be awarded.

Tie Breaking

If 2 teams are tied, the advancing team will be awarded by the criteria in the following order:

  • Head to head
  • Most wins
  • Largest goal differential
  • Most goals scored
  • Least goals given up
  • Coin flip

Match Format

All games will be played on small sided fields and 7v7 format.

Format Highlights:

  • 2 X 20 minute running time halves (no injury time)
  • 5 minute 1/2 time
  • All games all start on the 1/2 hour (ex. 8:30 AM)
  • All games will end precisely on the :15 of each (ex. 8:30 game ends at 9:15)
  • Offsides will be enforced at all ages at the 2/3rd line of the attacking side 
  • Substitutions are on the "fly" (hockey style)
  • A medal game that is tied after regulation will immediately go to penalty kicks. All other games, including consolation games can end in a tie
  • A game that goes to penalty kicks will be a best of 3 
  • All games will use size #4 soccer balls

Additional Information

All scores will be reported to a tournament official (at the headquarters) by a representative of each team following each match.

All games will begin and end on time. A forfeit will be declared if a team cannot field a minimum of five (5) players at the start of the game. A tournament official may extend the start of a game up to 10 minutes if deemed "reasonable" to salvage the scheduled game.

Home teams are listed on the left side of the schedule and are responsible for the following:

  • Providing a game ball
  • Change their jersey top in the event of a colour conflict

Team Conduct

  • Team coaches are directly responsible for the conduct of their players, bench, parents and spectators at all times
  • If, in the opinion of the game officials, a game must be terminated for misconduct of players, bench or spectators, the offending team can be suspended from further play and forfeit that game and all remaining games. In this event, all previous points earned will remain as played
  • Any player or coach ordered from the field of play (including red cards) will not be allowed to participate in a minimum of one match (the next played). All discipline will be review by the tournament committee
  • Any team who plays a suspended/unregistered player will result in a team forfeit for the game(s) in which the player played
